It hasn’t been too long since Kendrick dropped To Pimp A Butterfly last year. He’s fresh off the Grammy stage having took home a humble five awards and already moving forward with music. He just dropped a short new LP, untitled unmastered. This isn’t exactly a quote on quote “new album,” and for the most part feels like a non discrete blend of TPAB and good kid, m.A.A.d city. All of the music on this new album were recorded between 2013 and this year. This is basically al album of throw away tracks that all came together ever so beautifully. We got previews of these “Untitled” tracks on Stephen Colbert’s show “Colbert Report” and the Grammys last year. We even the second third of “Untitled 07” produced by none other than Swizz Beats’s son Egypt. The project features Jay Rock, SZA, Hit-Boy, DJ Khalil and Cee-Lo Green. This album isn’t exactly the next saga of Kendrick Lamar, but is more so a reminder of his reign on hip-hop. Not many artists today can release a project of throw away songs recorded at various different times and have it sound cohesive, let alone become the number one album in the country. Our favorite track is the first third of “Untitled 07.” We firmly agree, “head is the answer.” Cop the album here.
